JOURNAL ENTRY

The walking portion of these two days seems
to run together. There were mountains close and mountains far. Most of the time the fenceline
provided the route from Barstow to Las Vegas.

With no WiFi between them that we could access, we continued through today to get this page
up and online.

Natt was able to see his first sidewinder. The picture makes it look a bit larger than it was: about 18".

We spent some time a the Veterans' Home in Baker. The veterans there were warm and kind,
inviting us to dine with them. I had fried rice.
My favorite drink has become water without ice.

San Berdino County, we were told is the largest County in the United States. I believe them.
As we made our way down the road we saw a fireman running toward us in the sun. He was wearing his heavy fire coat! We asked if he was
just trying to make us look bad - he smiled, "No, just trying to get ready for summer."

As the miles drifted from front to back we tried
to capture the feel of the land that is south- eastern California and Southwestern Nevada.

Sometimes we find ourselves walking day and night.

This was a Striking Display at the Veterans Home. Baker, California

D. Anson spent some time plaing his music and singing his songs for the men and women
at the Veterans Home.

Steven spending time talking about THE WALK as a Museum of American History
and The Walk for The Walk Tour as an effort to bring this project to the American public.

Natt and I were astonished to see this figure running in the distance, so clearly over-dressed
for the occassion. "Getting ready for summer," he said.

The walk between the power lines and the fence along IH15

We opted for the edge of the Highway (a no-no) I think, but a very kind CHP
check for our safety. Nice to know they are out there.

Looks fierce but it was just wanting to get back into the shade where we had interupted
his nap. He was happy to see us leave.

The ground beneath our feet.

Some of the Vets we got to meet at the Veterans Home in Baker, California. They were
nice enough to share some of their history with us as we shared this project with them.
Now, it belongs to each of them as much as it does to each of us making this walk.

Sometimes it takes balance.

Saying Good bye to California and Hello to Nevada

Walking into Las Vegas... it's there in the distance.

A gate with a good yoke.... that is NOT a great joke... still.

Nothing touches me more, nothing touches the people who visit the many exhibits we have
taken to the public more than the faces of those who have given their lives in service to this
nation. These men died for me. They also died for each of you reading this.
