JOURNAL ENTRY

Natt and I walked through the streets
of Glenwood Springs, Colorado as
bicycles dashed about us. Lance
Armstrong's photo was on the front
page of the local paper announcing
he was here for the run.

As we found our way to the hike
and bike trail that would take us
through the canyon to Eagle,
clouds threatened to make it a
wet march, but we saw only a
gorgeous rainbow.

After looking through this website,
someone emailed and asked if
this site didn't make light of the
difficulties of walking across the
United States. It is true that I prefer
to share the moments I want to
treasure far more than those that
sometimes make us weary.

Perhaps one day we might talk
about the wrong turns that added
miles or the rough terrain we
found as "access roads" disappeared
but for now, we prefer to think
of the times we take moments
to smell the flowers.

The Faces Exhibit will be made of portraits
on tiles creating a Wall of men and women
who have been killed in combat. The Faces
Exhibit will be constructed in San Antonio, Tx.

The Walk for THE WALK Tour is a walk
across America from Malibu, California
to Washington, D.C. taking the design for
a liner museum of American History
called: THE WALK to the public.

Steven wears a uniform shirt and tie to
prevent some from believing this is some
kind of a protest. The tour is more about
introducing The Walk than fund-raising.

This 3800 mile walk should also allow
people to understand that it is not
believed to be an easy project, but
that it is possible to do difficult things
when the desire is there, and like the
history of this continent and this nation,
The Walk has been filled with bright
moments, exhillerating adventures
and some set backs. Each of these
has added to what we are as a nation
and who we are as a people.

Lance Armstrong was in Glenwood Springs and I'm sure all those riding
on this day will remember that for a very long time.

Natt and Steven made their way through downtown on their way to Hwy 6.

Soon after we were on the Hike and Bike Trail through the Canyon that
will take us to Eagle, we took some pics of this chipmonk.

As we walked along the path that followed White River, we watched some
experienced Kayakers bouncing around the rapids.

Looks like focus.

Somehow these guys and gals always came out okay.

Natt rested on a rock near the rapids.

My feet got a bit wet on the moss covered rocks.

White River Rapids make their way along IH70 but the hike and bike path
winds its way about for a better view of the canyon.

There were a lot of bikes on this path until the clouds gathered.

The clouds gathered but Natt and I only saw a few scattered drops of rain.

Along Hwy 6 once again, we watched this Raven chase off a Maggpie from
a recent roadkill.

Millions of stories that should never be forgotten, perhaps preventing some future American from making their mistakes, or leading the next generation to a brighter future.

Our future is not written in stone. It never was. This nation was not left to us as a gift. It was left to us as a challenge. We can do no more. We should do no less.
