THE BRICKS
THE COLORS
AND
THEIR MEANINGS
The computers along the edges of The
Walk
offer visitors the opportunity to get some biographical
information about names they encounter as they walk.
More, names may be typed into the computer
and with the stroke of a key, that name will be located
and highlighted on the screen
to provide the viewer with the exact location
of that brick.
Each name and the names collectively
form
THE WALK's
Timeline.
Many Veterans served multiple tours
of combat
or during peace-time for multiple years that call
for the creation of more than a single brick.
There are multiple reasons for this design
that include allowing living veterans to arrive
at reunions without having their name not
at the location where that unit is gathered
and to serve as a better avenue for students
to gather information about that specific
period in time.

The line of Black Bricks continues, in this section, enscribed with
the names of every individual killed in combat in service to
this nation: Soldier, Sailor, Marine, Airman or Civilian.

Red Bricks follow along either side
of that long Black Line. These
carry the names of the men and women who served in combat
where the names in black gave their lives. These are their closest
Brothers in Arms.

The names of every individual that served
in the Armed Forces
ot these United States (not already on a brick) will be
engraved on Orange Bricks and rest next to those who
served in combat.

Cream colored bricks carry the names of civilians who have
done something with their lives that deserved special recognition.
These line either side of those who served in uniform
and include Scholars, Scientists, Inventors, Members of
the Peace Corps, Red Cross Volunteers, Artists, Musicians,
Writers, Poets, Business and Industry learders, Political leaders
and more.

Just outside the cream colored bricks are bricks of a Deep Red.
These bear the names of Medical Personnel, EMTs,
Fire Fighters and other Emergency Workers who either did
something Heroic while in service to others
or were Killed in the Line of Duty

The final row of bricks on either side of The Walk are a
Deep Blue. This long blue line present the names of those
who served as Peace Officers, including Sheriffs,
Marshalls, Police and other Municiple, County,
State or Federal members of the Law Enforement
Community.
