My mother loved elephants!

When we went to the zoo, we spent most of our time watching the elephants. They were giants but they seemed very friendly and I grew to love them, too.

One day I asked my mother if she could teach me to draw and she sat with me and drew a picture of an elephant. It was an elegant little elephant but I believed it was way too difficult for me to draw. But, she asked me if I could make the letter "C" and I nodded and drew a great big "C." We drew each line one at a time and in moments I was looking at her elephant that I had drawn! Right then, her elephant was my elephant.

I was really excited and drew elephant after elephant. Soon, I was moving some of the lines about. I made them standing on two legs, standing on balls and swimming. Ofcourse, it was the same little elephant with a couple of lines changed but that was the beginning.

So this is our introduction to: THE WALK. We will be looking at creating a Linear Museum of American History that stretches for more than 180 miles with thousands of facets addressing nearly every issue we consider important in today's world. It may; at first to appear to be an improbable; if not impossible task but you will soon discover it really is just lots of simple tasks joined together. It is; in fact: simple, uncomplicated, practical.

This site will presents the project in sections. Each section looks at a single aspect of THE WALK. One section will, near the end, look at some of the issues woven into the fabric of this physical Time Machine that many are sure to find surprising. Some of them even surprised me!

How can I believe in this dream?

The Walk is more than my dream. It is OUR dream. Mine and Yours. Americans will Stand together: reach together - rise together - and with the winds at our backs, we will invite the entire world to join us -- for we are them -- and understanding that and allowing them to understand that can be the beginning of a very promising future.

A silly dream? Yes! Like a round world was. Like the New World was. Like flying was. Like reaching the moon was. A silly dream that is within our grasp.

We only have to accept the challenge. And that was what our forefathers left us - not a gift but a challenge!
