Why Florida?

Ask people from Florida and they are likely to say, "This is where
the first settlement is," or "this is where the Spanish landed."
While these statements have merit, THE WALK is a design for a
National American History Museum that must not only represent
every section of America's origin and history, but be able to presentf
all those areas across the globe Americans have touched in one way
or another. This places some heavy requirements on the selection of
the final site.

The area selected must be able to present the architecture, culture
and lifestyles of the many tribes that occupied this continent prior
to the arrival of the Europeans. This means beaches, forests, swamps,
mountains, deserts and plains. Obviously, much will have to be done
to allow this to succeed, no matter the final site selection.

Northwest Florida has been neglected for nearly 450 years by
most developers. This makes the area a nearly clean canvas upon
which to build. It boasts some of the most beautiful water in the
world, stunning white sands and a range of swamps and forests
along possible paths.

The University of West Florida has a archeology department that
is among the best in the nation. Even more, it has a land surface
that would allow for easy growth. With some nations considering
creating what would be augmentary campuses, this would make
the area an academic center beyond description.
