The Walk is the
name for a new
American History Museum. The name serves as a metaphor
for America's History. It is, in essence, our walk.
This American History Museum; The Walk, will require
some walking to experience. The design calls for it to
be constructed; without interuption, for more than
two hundred miles. As one walks from the time just
prior to the European arrival through current events,
the dots of our history will be connected by what has been
considered a physical Time Machine.
The Walk for The Walk is our walk to bring
the design to the American People, first, and
then to those who represent us in Washington.
There are times when we give great credit
to Americans
who have shared their dreams with their fellow citizens.
Some of these include the creation of a nation born
where the
highest office in the land is: citizen.
WE THE PEOPLE.
What an astonishing dream!
This nation's first citizens led in a dream of creating a nation from
sea to shining sea --
other citizens had dreams of reaching the moon
and still another, of creating a nation where each individual
could be judged by the content of his or her own character
rather than the color of his or her skin.
These dreams were presented by individuals,
but they were embraced by a nation and they became more than "their"
dreams,
they became "our dreams."
This project can hardly be called my
dream. It has morphed as I presented it to others who added
to it a thousand times. It is nothing more than a physical text book
on American History, it
is nothing less than a phyical Time Machine that will allow each person
to visit a time period
that he or she would like to understand better or just enjoy.
I have not visited with anyone who does
not believe such a project as this, when constructed
(though it will never be completed)
will allow each American to better understand
that this nation was never to be considered
a gift presented to us by our forefathers,
but a challenge by them to maintain and preserve
a nation that rose: unparalled in time.
Some do believe it is a dream too far to reach.
Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Ben Franklin, Harry Truman, John
Kennedy,
Martin Luther King Jr. and many others had great faith in the American
people.
So do I.
I, without rervation, believe in the people of this nation.
The importance of our own history is
often difficult to understand
because various elements; our origin and our history
are linked in a way that they don't make it easy to see
how each event has led to where we are today.
THE WALK (The Museum) is designed to reflect our walk,
this nations walk (The metaphor)
from a time before Europeans stepped on this continent
through the time we became a separate nation;
The United States of America,
then continue through current events.
